Marine & Environmental Research (MER) LabLtd is an environmental consulting SME formed in 2008, based in Cyprus and operating in Eastern Mediterranean. MER specializes in the marine environment. We conduct research, environmental monitoring, impact assessments and offer high quality and flexible consulting services mainly but not restricted to the sectors of marine ecology, aquaculture, and fisheries at Cyprus and abroad.
MER Lab is equipped with advanced infrastructure/equipment and required expertise to analyse marine biotic and abiotic parameters essential in marine environmental monitoring and research.
MER will be accepting a couple of interns to assist their research team.
The qualification/experience needed should be a degree in Biological Sciences or something related and to have an interest in the marine environment.
Interns may involved in a couple of projects that it may be interesting for an intern to attend to, especially if they are diving:
1) Project is funded by the government of Cyprus, it has seasonal samplings, each one lasting about 10 days in the field with many dives and the main objective is to identify the organisms at two marine Natura 2000 sites and set up a baseline. Then data processing and species identifications follow in the laboratory.
2) LIFE+ project which will be related to the creation of a surveillance/monitoring system for the invasive lionfish Pterois miles, demonstration of rapid removal efforts and competitions, lots of stakeholder engagement and education, development of tools for managers, transfer of knowledge and networking with other projects abroad and many more.
Interested and qualifying candidates shall send their CVs at ruta.svarinskaite@lpk.lt or rasa.rotomskiene@lpk.lt
