Praktika Pasaulio turizmo organizacijoje (UNWTO)
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is the United Nations agency responsible for the promotion of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism. As the leading international organization in the field of tourism it promotes tourism as a driver of economic growth, inclusive development and environmental sustainability.
During my last year of studying in Vilnius University, I already knew that I would like to use the opportunity to have an internship abroad after my graduation. I was interested in sustainable development and tourism as one of the fastest growing economic sectors, so the decision to apply for the internship in World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) was easy and well thought.
During my internship I gained a better knowledge of tourism and travel industry policy developments and processes as well as better knowledge of sustainable development in tourism sector and international tourism impact on the economy.
Moreover, I had an opportunity to be a part of the team during big international events organized by World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) such as ¨8th edition of the Tourism Investment and Business Forum for Africa¨ (INVESTOUR) which took part during one of the biggest International Tourism Fair’s FITUR and Official Opening of the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development (IY2017).
More importantly, working in international and multicultural environment strengthened international communication skills, helped me to adopt and integrate different aspects of the multicultural environment and make a lot of friends from all over the world. I would highly recommend to take the chance and go for an internship abroad, because I believe that it helped me to grow not only as a young professional but also as a person too.
