Internship at Archive Books in Berlin
After graduating master studies of Communication Science at Vilnius University I was lucky enough to find an internship at the publishing house Archive Books based in Berlin, Germany. Archive works as an interdisciplinary platform for cultural research and debate that is engaged in a wide range of activities including publishing and exhibition making.
I was assisting in project space Archive Kabinett that is both a library and a bookshop, and simultaneously a space for lectures, screenings and exhibitions. It is hard not to be fascinated by the aesthetics and qualitative content the company produces. From the very first day I was highly involved in coordinating of public program (comprising of exhibitions, screenings, launches, presentations, discussions, workshops etc.), external communication, and daily care of the exhibition space venue and its maintenance.
The atmosphere at work was very inspiring and the flat hierarchy let everyone to be themselves. Being surrounded by all those books really sharpens your critical thinking and perception of life. During this internship I had a chance to deepen my understanding of international working environment, global market and observe cultural industries here in Berlin.
I would say an internship is all about how much you are willing to take from this experience, and not how much you want to get. So far, to complete this internship was one of the best decisions in my life. I have gained valuable experience, met people from all over the world, improved my German and even started a new chapter in my professional career. Dankeschön!
