My ICT internship at the World Health Organisation

Hello, my name is Ramunas and I did my ICT (Information and Communication Technology) internship at the WHO Regional Office for Europe in the huge UN City building in Copenhagen. It was amazing experience to work with the team of professionals and to meet a lot of smart people from the entire world who are doing their internships or work at WHO.

First of all, I would like to stress, that I worked with very friendly people who could explain all the tasks clearly, to help with trouble shouting or if needed to joke for keeping the team spirit.

During the internship I got more than I was expecting before starting it. In the beginning of the internship I was overloaded with  information about the building’s infrastructure and ICT functions and services provided by the ICT team. But in two weeks I learned more about network management infrastructure. As the result  I created my first project service catalogue document that was reviewed by my supervisor and highly appreciated. I felt more motivated and continued my work with new projects. Step by step I got new knowledge and gained more self-confidence in my  ICT skills. Besides, during my internship I improved my English skills and I got an exposure to international environment.

In conclusion, I would like to encourage my colleagues to use internship opportunity for meeting new people/professionals who could become your colleagues in the future. You would also benefit from a „real life“ work experience and deep understanding of your subject while working in a big team (organization).

I do hope that this internship experience and my new colleagues will help me finding my dream job in the future.
