(English) Internship in Karolinska Institutet, Sweden

Karolinska Institutet is one of the world’s leading research centers for biomedical sciences. With state of the art research facilities and close collaboration with Karolinska Hospital this facility creates ample opportunities for translational research in which new experimental results are rapidly implemented for patient benefit, and where clinical observations provide a basis for new research ideas.

During my stay I have investigated the involvement of SR proteins in hypoxia regulated splicing. I have improved my knowledge on cultivating human cell lines as well as introducing recombinant DNA to the cells via transfection. To achieve my research goals, I have analyzed RNA extracted from the cells, transfected with one specific SR proteins using RT-PCR method. Also proteins were analyzes using the Western blot method.

Also, after going through a Radiation safety course, I have improved my skills in working with radiolabeled RNA in analyzing RNA protein interactions.

While my education in scientific procedures was very rewarding, I have also learned a lot in matters regarding teamwork, social environment and safety.
